Comment: I happened to see this shirt online and thought my husband would like it. I was wrong, he loves it! He says it is extremely comfortable and feels great when riding. Looks very good on as well. The combination of snaps and zipper closure work really well. The fit seems to be true to size though on a taller person (over 6'2") it may seem a little short. Hand washing is recommended so keep that in mind. Very cool!
Motorcycling has always been a symbol of freedom, and one of the ways riders exhibit that freedom is with the apparel they choose to protect themselves. Many argue that riding without sophisticated, heavily armored gear is an irresponsible and unnecessary risk. The argument is also made that if you are that concerned with safety then maybe motorcycling is a contradictory choice for a hobby, and a car may be a better method of transportation. Either way, the availability of both heavily armored gear and lighter duty, casual looking gear is extensive, and you can get everything you need here at Jafrum.
This Speed and Strength Black Nine Moto Shirt is part of a larger, vintage looking collection including an open face helmet, a pair of armored shoes, and a casual tee. This shirt is designed to look like your standard issue plaid flannel, but hides some features that a rider will find very useful. It’s made of a cotton poly blend, so it’s soft to the touch, but it will shrink minimally, and hold up well against the sunlight. The snap front outer closure hides a supplemental zipper beneath it. I like this feature because it allows a wider range of airflow management, and will do a better job of keeping the garment on you in a slide. If you look inside the Black Nine Moto Shirt, you will find a fixed mesh liner that promotes excellent mobility and added airflow.
This moto shirt also has some hidden protection. The shoulders and elbows have DuPont Kevlar panels that are sandwiched between the shell and the mesh liner. For the six of you out there that don’t already know, Kevlar is an incredibly high tensile strength aramid fiber that is rated at five times the strength of steel by weight, and is used for everything from cell phone housings to body armor. In short, it’s real strong.
Other handy riding features include collar flaps with hidden snaps. If you’ve ever ridden a motorcycle at speed in a collared shirt or vest, you know why this feature is important. When the air gets under a collar that isn’t fasten down, you promptly receive about 12 slaps per second to your face and neck. You will show up to your destination looking like a guy with new manners. These snaps prevent such a humbling experience. You also get expandable gussets in the shoulders to allow you to reach your bike’s controls comfortably.
Styling cues include subtle branding and feature tags on the right breast pocket and the lower main closure cover flap. There is also some larger, but also subtle embroidery across the upper back.
