How to measure your shoe size

A question that tends to come through on our phone line to our Gear Experts is, “How do I know what shoe size I am?” and “How do you go about finding that out?” Well we here at Jafrum decided to add this guide to simplify the ordering process of motorcycle boots and put your mind at ease. This will help you with the difference between European and US sizing, regular, wide, and extra wide sizes, and what a proper fit should feel like in the end.

US and European Sizes

European and U.S. sizing for boots and shoes is actually quite simple. European sizing starts at 35 in the length of 22.8 cm and increases in 3/10cm increments for every ½ size. A European Men’s 44 would be 27.3cm long and equivalent to a U.S. Men’s size 10½. For the most part in U.S. sizing, men’s shoes start at a size 3½ (9 inches in length) and for every half size increase the length by 1/8th of an inch. To convert from men’s sizing to women’s, subtract 1 ½ size. To convert women’s sizing to men’s, increase the size by 1 ½. Below is a chart that shows European sizes converted to US Men’s and Women’s sizing.

Wide Sizes in Shoes

Men’s and women’s shoes come in narrow and wide sizes, symbolized by letters. The beginning of the alphabet symbolizes the narrowest of shoes and gradually gets wider as the letters head away from “A” towards EEE. The letters indicate different widths for men’s and women’s, so please refer to the chart below.

Insuring a Proper Fit

When you receive your boot and try it on, make sure there is a gap 3/8” to ½” when standing from your big toe to the front of the boot. Make sure the widest part of your foot (at the ball of your foot) fits snugly in the shoe but not too tightly. Walk on a variety of terrain or flooring before removing the tags or going for a ride. If the tags are removed or the boots become scuffed or muddy they will no longer be eligible for return. Do not expect the boots to “give in” or “break in” too much over time as most motorcycle boots are reinforced or molded for rigidity and protection. Wearing the wrong size shoe can cause skin and muscle issues overtime, so choose the best fit for your particular foot each order by using the individual size charts for each shoe or boot.
