SpeedTWist Fate 3 Gloves Review

by - verified purchaser
Gloves are as advertised. Really like them. Went with a xl and they fit perfectly. Normally wear a large. Good investment.

The Twist of Fate line is Speed and Strength's most premium line of gear; and, in true Speed and Strength fashion, it is offered at a very reasonable price. These gauntleted race gloves for example, with all the features I'm about to show you, come in at a sub-150 price point. They are available in two colors, the white, black, and silver color way you see here, and an all-black version as well.

Probably the most notable of these features is the sophistication of the leather. Pittards ArmorTan is a durable, water-repellant leather that has undergone a complex process in which the microscopic fibril bundles have been encased in ceramic to create a more abrasion resistant leather. You can't tell any difference in the feel, though. These gloves are as soft and flexible as any you'll find. As far as fit goes, these gloves are made in 'merica with a 'merican cut. So, if you are typically a euro glove wearer, like Alpine Star, for example, make sure to go down a size.

The Twist of Fate does a really good job of providing protection while remaining flexible. Starting at the gauntlet, you get a dual density slider for your ulna, which is the bone on the outside of your arm that is usually to first to meet the asphalt. The dual flap closure on the gauntlet has a foam protector that sits perfectly over the radius bone and an additional pad on the inside of the forearm. The wrist has a hook and loop strap to keep the glove from sliding over your carpals. This strap gets covered by the pull-on tab. On the ball of the hand you have a thermoplastic insert to protect your inner carpal bones and a foam pad to protect your outer carpals and the basilar joint at the base of the thumb. They stack the leather to offer protection in high wear areas but leave a single layer around the thumb. I actually really like this feature. Thumb mobility goes a long way to keep the hand from cramping over a long rip. From here you can also see the protection for the metacarpals and phalanges of the outside of the hand. Again you see the multiple layers of leather and the first examples of the TPR inserts. These offer impact absorption but are flexible. If we turn the glove over we can get a closer look at some more of the features. Stretch panels at the wrist offer increased mobility, both up and down and side to side. There is a TPU slider with foam backing on the top of the hand to protect the metacarpals and knuckles. The thumb has more of these TPR inserts and an expandable knuckle joint. The index, middle, and ring fingers have exposed TPR protectors and the control fingers get more of these flex joints.

All and all this Twist of fate is a very high quality glove that offers quite a bit of protection while retaining flexibility, making it a great option for either the track or aggressive street riding, all for under 150 dollars.
