I think it's the perfect jacket for the money. It looks good and is very versatile. I've only had it for a short while but I use it everyday going to and from work. Cool in the morning. Just leave the rain liner on then take it off for the ride home using only the mesh layer. Perfect! The extra security of the armor is what I wanted and this jacket system does it all. We'll see how it goes when the colder weather is back and I have all three layers installed. Great Price, Great Jacket! Don't hesitate.

I purchased this jacket based on the sizing chart and it did run a little small. However this is a great jacket and a great price. I would recommend going a size up.
Jacket comes with two liners that can be worn individually or both together. One liner is a rain liner and has sleeves. The other liner does not have sleeves and provides light warmth protection to the torso. Worn together, the warm vest attaches inside the rain liner which attaches inside the jacket. Without liners, even a slight breeze goes right through the jacket where it is not blocked by padding. The padding and other protective areas are fairly substantial; however, the back padding can be removed if desired. The jacket incorporates a zipper to attach the jacket to the top of pants if desired. I am very pleased with the jacket. It is a great value for the price. I used the sizing information provided to determine what size to order and it fit perfectly.
This jacket is well constructed and looks good. The waterproof liner is indeed waterproof and cuts the wind in cooler weather. It has velcro storm flap over the zipper which works very well. The quilted vest liner is light and extends the use of this jacket into cooler weather riding (maybe into the 40's). Well designed collar, cuffs and adjustable waist. I'm 6'1", 215 lbs, 46" chest and the 2XL fits, but I probably could have gone with an XL. Overall a great jacket system.
Good jacket. I have ridden with it in cooler temps and was satisfied. It had the rain and thermal liners in but was not uncomfortable. The fit was just what I ordered. The construction has an adequate appearance and I do not want to test it. Let's say I trust it. Excellent pricing.
I do not like the heat so I put on only the mesh jacket and it was great. The rain and quilted liner are a bit of a pain to put inside the jacket which takes some time. So I'll have to do it well before the rain comes.
GOOD JACKET AND THE SALE PRICE FROM JAFRUM WAS OUTSTANDING.
First off, delivery was lightning fast....ordered jackets midday Tuesday and we were trying them on Thursday afternoon. We ordered these in black and they look absolutely awesome. Felt pretty heavy with both liners & the armor but, once we put them on, it was amazing how comfortable they really were. This being my first armored jacket, I was surprised at just how unobtrusive the armor really was... I guess I expected it be more noticeable. The sizing chart is probably spot-on. I'm 6'1" and 210lbs..chest size just under 45". I opted for the 2XL instead of the XL the chart shows just because tend to run too short in the sleeve for my long arms. Turns out the XL (which I ordered for my S/O) fit me almost perfect. I'm sticking with the 2XL because a prefer a little bit of room for extra layers if I want them. No real warm weather riding yet , only 65* or so, but warm enough to ride w/o the liners... tons of ventilation with the mesh makes think this jacket is going to fine this summer, maybe even when it gets stupid hot/humid. I rode home from work the other morning at 30 degrees and with a sweatshirt as an extra layer underneath, I was toasty warm for the whole 45 minute ride. I've never been a cold weather rider, but that may be changing now. Overall, these jackets are a great deal . Good looking, versatile, very comfortable...well worth the money.
This was my first mesh, lined, armored jacket. It includes a rain liner and an insulated liner. This one of the few jackets I found with all three. My first impression when I put it on was that there was no way I was wearing something that uncomfortable. However, after I checked it out, and sat on my bike with it, and immediately changed my mind. This jacket weighs 6 pounds, so it is quite heavy, but you don't notice it once you are in riding position on the bike. It is almost like not wearing a jacket, but yet you can feel the protection afforded by the armored pads, which are not obtrusive by any means. I have not used it in hot weather, but I did ride at about 50* with all three layers and a sweatshirt. It was comfortable and warm, just the way I like it. Not sure how low the temps can get before being uncomfortable, but I suspect near 30* or so it may start getting chilly. I am 5'-11" and 230 lbs, andwear XL shirts. The jacket was true to size, and just large enough to squeeze in a sweatshirt, but is still snug enough in a t-shirt with the liners in. Features I like are the pockets for a phone, adjustable straps on the wrists and sides, and the versatility of the three tier lining system. The liner zipper is completely covered in a velcro strip to keep rain and wind out. I was skeptical at first, but am glad I chose this jacket system. I would recommend this jacket for cool weather, and hopefully hot weather riding, too. I have been told that a mesh jacket is cooler in the summer than riding with a t-shirt, so we will see. Nice, quality three season jacket.
This jacket looks pretty good, a little large in the body, but it's not bad. I ordered a 2XL and it fits fine, but a little loose in the belly - I'm 6'1", 210 lbs, 46" chest, 36" waist, no gut. I probably could have gone with the XL, but I wanted room to layer. The arms are good and long with zippers and velcro adjustments at the wrists so they don't expose your wrists when on the bars. The liners work well and extend the use of the jacket. The loops for your belt are a great way to keep the jacket from riding up in a slide. The mesh does a great job in the south Texas heat, it lets the air flow and keeps your sweat from evaporating before it can do its job and cool you.
I had a high side crash at about 45mph on asphalt (after I hit the ground, it was mostly sliding/rolling) and the armor in the elbows and shoulders saved me from impact injuries and abrasions - didn't do much for the super soreness the next couple of days, but nothing stops that. I was able to get up, start the bike (somehow only minor cosmetic damage from sliding) and ride home after a few minutes. The jacket has a few scuffs from it and a small rip in the mesh by the side armor, but it's still very usable - gloves and helmet are totaled, but the jacket survived very well.
This seems to be a well thought out product. If you need a jacket that has good protection for an everyday rider and can't afford or don't want to spend a bunch for a popular name sewn on a tag, this is a great deal.
No cons that I can think of except I'd like to see it in hi-viz, because black and silver are not that great on blacktop or in fog.
The Detour 8023 Mesh jacket is constructed out of durable polynylon mesh material with ballistic nylon panels in the shoulders, sides, and elbows. You have your choice of two colorways with the 8023 including all black and silver and grey with black panels. It’s available in sizes M thru 4X, and features removable CE approved armor in the shoulders and elbows. There is also a foam pad added to the back to protect your spine. In addition, there is padding sewn right into the shell in the rib area. The lower back padding works with this zippered pants attachment to reduce the chance of your skin becoming exposed in a crash. This model also features these two loops for attaching the jacket to a belt if you’re wearing jeans instead of riding pants. Night time visibility is improved by the addition of reflective piping across the back.
The main closure features a YKK nylon zipper with a metal pull tab and the collar has a ridge of heavy padding to eliminate any irritation. The hand warmer pockets at the waist feature zippered closures to keep your items from falling out.
The fit is completely adjustable to accommodate whatever layers you may want to wear under the jacket. There are hook and loop adjustments at the waist and these snap down adjusters on the sleeves that also help to reduce buffeting of the jacket at higher speeds. The cuff opening is also adjustable thanks to these hook and loop straps.
Unzipping the shell exposes the hidden pocket and the zipper for the removable full sleeve waterproof liner. Unzipping the waterproof liner eposes the removable quilted thermal vest liner. This liner has the same connection zipper dimensions as the waterproof liner so you can wear this jacket with just the thermal liner if you want to, although it’s probably not going to do much in a mesh jacket without the waterproof liner in place. The thermal liner also offers a significant amount of additional storage with a zippered pocket on the right and a multi-pocket setup on the left.
