The most noticeable quality of this Top Dead Center leather jacket from Speed and Strength has got to be the price. You’re getting the protection of cowhide leather, the breathability of a mesh, and the style of Speed and Strength. And, you’re getting it all for less than three hundred bucks, at a time when leather has increased in cost by over forty percent over the last few years. This Top Dead Center leather jacket is part of a full collection of gear including a helmet, this leather jacket, a textile version of this jacket, and a pair of gloves. This jacket has a hybrid cowhide and AR-600 poly chassis, which is crucial in creating the lightest possible jacket that still offers the protection of leather. This is going to be a three
season jacket. The entire leather portion of the chassis is perforated, and the textile portions are highly breathable, so this jacket will definitely perform best in warmer weather. You’ll notice, too, that the perforation doesn’t extend into the seams. The perforation is added the jacket after it’s assembled. The result is seams that are less likely to come apart in a crash.
The Top Dead Center is available in three color ways; this asymmetrical red and black, an all-black, and an asymmetrical blue and black. It features large TPR Speed and Strength logos on the front and the rear, and TPR’s on the shoulders that are accompanied by these patches. It’s available in sizes small to double extra-large, and the fit is pretty full for a sport leather. You have a huge range of motion, and the arms are only precurved slightly, so this jacket is still comfortable off the bike. You’ll also find accordion style stretch panels in the elbows and under the arms for added mobility.
The TDC also has some adjustability to it. There are snap style take ups in the forearm areas, and hook and loop adjusters at the waist. There are also hook and loop adjusters at the cuffs that work well with these microfiber gussets to provide a comfortable fit. The combination of the adjustability and the flexibility of this jacket make it very universally fitting. This jacket will work well on many different body types.
Protection comes in the way of lightweight CE approved armor from Vault in the shoulders, elbows, and back, and reflective piping across the shoulders. To protect your lower back, you have a choice of an eight inch zip for attaching the jacket to a pair of riding pants, or these loops with snaps for attaching the jacket to your belt. If we go back to the front of the jacket, you can see the zip style hand warmer pockets, and the main closure zipper with a TPR pull tab. While we’re looking at the zipper, you can see the low profile neoprene collar that is ideal for a warmer weather jacket. They offer excellent range of motion for your head, but also allow you the throw a hoodie on as a base layer without making the neckline too snug.
Opening the jacket up, reveals the fixed mesh liner for added airflow, and the zippered interior pocket. All in all, the Top Dead Center leather motorcycle jacket is a fantastic union between leather and poly, and one of the most comfortable warm weather leathers you’ll find.
