I purchased these pants to ensure that I'm covered for all elements. These pants have been phenomenal so far. I completed my MSF class during a torrential down pour and I was completely dry. As warm as the pants were while wearing them in 50 degree weather, I have no doubt they will suffice in the winter. I highly recommend this product.
I've been using these for several months, and overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I normally wear 33 waist/31 inseam jeans, and the Medium size for these pants is just right. I have not tested out the crashworthiness, but they do seem sturdy. Easy on and off over jeans or work pants, with good adjustments to fit snug but not too tight. With the liner, I'm good to ride in temperatures down to 40ºF (maybe a little lower, but I generally avoid that). Without the liner, they are decent up to about 75ºF - above that, you notice that they don't allow much ventilation. I have not taken them out in any serious rain, but they kept me reasonably dry when caught in passing showers. They come with a zipper in the back to connect with a jacket.Overall I would absolutely purchase these again - they're pretty darn good for the price.
I was a jeans and chaps guy for quite some time and eventually got tired of buckling, zippering, suspending, and adjusting everything for 15 minutes to get suited up. I was also freezing in the frigid temps of winter.. i was looking for pant to just "pull on' and be ready to go, and also provide warmth in the winter months. The Detour 8501 provided a solution to all my issues! Some of the stitching is very weak on certain areas of the garment. First, when taking the pants off i tore out the flimsy loop the secures the inner lining to the inside of the pant leg. I sewed that back in- REALLY well!!! Next, putting the pants on i tore off half off the webbing material that holds in the armour on the knees. This section is very vulnerable to tears and is not as strong of a material as it should be. If you have the inner liner in, this should not be a problem but beware. I just duct taped it up and I was good to go- i will repair it properly later... Here's the thing, i love the pants soo much that it didn't matter about these two details. These pants are awesome!! Not $200-300 pants, but a great option for a low-budget rider. I wear a 40 waist and 34/36inseam and need a tall size, so i got the 3XLT- Great fit and long enuff when sitting on the bike I personally just added a pair of $9 suspenders from WalMart that clip to the back zipper flap and the waistband under the velcro front closures in the front. Absolutely perfect!! On and off in seconds and ready to ride!!!
very nice well built pants. I wear a 34 waist with a 32 inseam and got the large size. It was big on me so I sent it back for a medium. I now own Joe Rocket, Feldsheir and Tourmaster pants and I really don't think you can get a better overall motorcycle pant than the 8501'S for this price anywhere.
Absolutely great riding pants that were exactly as described and a fantastic price! These are comfortable yet heavy duty. The liner is warm and pants have great insulated feel. The added safety features are perfectly placed. If you read the reviews there is no way you will order the wrong size. You will never find this quality at this price.
true to size, I wear a 38 pants so ordered the xl. fit great. wore them in 30 degree weather and was plenty warm without jeans underneath. thanked the wife for a perfect Christmas present.
These Detour 8501 come closest to what I have been looking for in motorcycle pants. They have 4 pockets, not just two, adjustable side straps for tightening the fit around the waist and CE armor where it is needed. The only thing I would have preferred would be belt loops, so that you can add a belt in order to carry more gear and tighten the waist further should it be required. These are good pants at a great price.
I need a pair of warm, windproof riding pants, and these seem to be just what I need. I like the fact that I get to choose both the waist and the length. I bought L-short, and they fit well. They're functional but not attractive, but I don't care.
A very good pair of pants at an excellent price. You don't seem to expect much after paying less than $100 for riding pants, but I'm here to tell you that they're well worth it. If you don't have a ton of money to spend on expensive gear, these pants are the perfect buy. I normally wear a 30 or 31 size jeans, I bought the small size Detour pants and they fit excellent. They are very comfortable, warm, and stylish. I commuted 60 miles round trip on the interstate to and from work in the cold Northwest on one of its coldest mornings of the year (about 20-30 degrees), and these pants kept me very warm with only jeans under them. Keep in mind, I was doing speeds of 60-70 the majority of the ride. Very cost effective pants, and you can remove the thermal liner when it gets too hot. The liner hook and loop design to hold the liners in place are poor and will tear when removing pants over biots if not careful, but I just take my boots off first and it's no problem. Sew some extra thread into the loops in the pants if you want them tNo be fully secured. Overall, I am a very pleased customer. Thanks Jafrum for an awesome experience.
I was pleased with the durability and features on t he riding pants. Zippers were heavy duty and vents were useful in the warmer time during ride.
I am a 32 waist and that is what I ordered. Fits very nicely Zipper is heavy duty. Easy off and on with side zippers. Button loops on removable lining has not been sewn on and fell out of pant leg the first time I put them on. Resewed them with heavier string and now the are 100% Rode today in 54 degree weather and they were warm and comfortable.
The last pants I had fell apart in 6 months. I'm sure these will last a lot longer. They are made from a very tough material. They are made for cool/cold weather though. I wear base layers under them to soak up the sweat.
Comfortable and great fit, I definitely recommend getting at least 1 size up. Warm on the 30-40 degree mornings without the additional liner.
Fit true, good construction and material. Knee pad pocket does get in the way when putting on and fly could give more room when putting on but overall awesome for the price.
just as others say, a little snug getting on but are great ! I have worn in them in 30's and 40's with a pair of jeans and all claims are on. Half the price of tourmaster with equal quality
Had a excellent experience shopping with Jafrum! Fast shipping and superb quality pants! I am 5'11 and weigh 180 lbs, the size large fit perfectly. Opened the box tried on the pants and decided to go for a 'short' ride, well about 200 miles later in 50 degree weather, wind chill drops that into the 40's, pants kept me nice and warm! Comfortable the whole ride! Thank you Jafrum!
The pants fit great and appear well made and a great value for the price. Although I normally wear a 32 inseam The pant appeared baggy if they break on the boot. The short does not appear baggy and are very comfortable. My normal waist size is in the 36 - 37 range and the large fit great. I have not ridden in them yet but I have worn them enough to expect they will be very comfortable and warm on a long ride
I bought these pants as I am on a limited budget and needed a pair of riding pants. I ordered the next size up as suggested in other reviews. After removing the inner liner and rain liner, the pants fit me perfectly. (note: I didn't need the other liners and the pants would have fit fine with them on.) They breath well in the heat and I felt comfortable on the bike. These are good quality and I'm happy to have them. All the gear, all the time!!! Thanks Jafrum
in addition to the other weak areas of stitching, the crotch seam tore. Great fitting and protective pants, just didn't last a week of riding everyday. Returning. I am sure that Jafrum will take care of me! they always do!!
These Detour 8501 Textile Riding Pants are made of a durable water and abrasion resistant polynylon, and are an incredible value for the features and details that you get with these pants. They have a huge size range including regular sizes XS thru 4X, and Short and Tall sizes M thru 3X. Our model is 5'10", with an average build and proportion, and fits perfectly in the medium regulars. They have reinforced panels in all of the high-wear areas like the rear end and the knees, and all of the seams are double stitched. For protection, there is CE approved armor in the knees, and extra padding in common impact areas like the hips, shins, and lower back.
Storage is plentiful with the 8501's. There are polyester lined hand warmer pockets at the waist and mesh lined pockets on the thighs that double as vents.
The main closure features a zippered and gusseted fly with dual hook and loop straps for adjustability. The leg openings feature lightweight nylon zippers that are protected from the elements by these hook and loop flaps with reflective trim at the bottom. Inside the leg closure, you can see the removable quilted thermal liner that has its own metal zipper and the fixed waterproof liner with taped seams to keep the wet off of you.
The only things that separate these pants from ones that cost two to three times as much is that the exterior material is not completely waterproof nor are the zippers. You can treat the material, though, with a waterproofing spray, and the liner is waterproof. The other would be breathability of the waterproof liner. This liner is not going to allow hot air out of the garment like a high end Gore-Tex type liner will.
