Jacket Sizing Information. There are three variables to consider when sizing an ICON jacket. The first two are the chest and sleeve measurements, which are what your jacket size is based on. The third is the jacket fit type, which defines the "cut" of the jacket (Attack, Sport, or Relaxed). Instructions, sizing charts and jacket fit details can be found below.
Chest Measurement. While standing with your arms relaxed at your side, wrap a flexible tape measure around your chest at its largest point. The tape measure should go through your armpit and stay parallel with the floor while taking the measurement
Sleeve Measurement Instructions. While standing with your arms relaxed at your side, place one end of a flexible tape measure on your spine at the base of your neck. Measure over the top of your shoulder, down over the point of your elbow, and finish at the wrist bone.
The new Icon 1000 Oildale jacket is a welcome diversion from the textile jacket norm. Icon 1000 apparel has a distinct vintage look with modern safety technology built into it. Many classic textile jackets were made of waxed cotton, much like this one. The wax provides a wind proof barrier and some waterproofing. You get some of the characteristics of leather, but in a much lighter weight chassis with a lower cost. The difference between the old waxes and this new treatment is that this new synthetic wax is permanent. If you’ve had an old waxed cotton jacket you know what happens when they got hot. The wax could transfer and stain things. Anything the material touched got a greasy little smudge on it. Plus, you had to retreat your jacket every year or so. This new Heritage synthetic waxing stays impregnated into the fabric where it belongs and you never have to reapply. The material wears unique to the way you bend and move as well, so your jacket really will be a one of a kind. Another modern feature of the chassis is these ballistic nylon stretch panels in the underarms and ribs. This material is track grade, and a welcome addition, especially for riders of motorcycles with a long reach to the grips.
The new Oildale is available in a large size range that includes small to four XL, and the sport fit is precise and accurate to the size chart. This jacket is available in this brown or in black and features subtle branding on the chest, shoulders, and back of the neck. While we’re looking at the neck line, you can see the Clarino lined collar that has a soft suede feel to it, and the heavy duty YKK main closure zipper with pull tab.
One of the things I really like about the Icon 1000 lineup is their combination of looks and safety. You get that vintage motocross feel to all of the apparel, but with modern materials and safety features. This Oildale jacket is equipped with CE rated D3O T5 EVO Pro K armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back. What that means to you is that this is the good stuff. This armor material is incredibly soft and pliable in its static state. In an impact, it becomes momentarily rigid to spread the impact energy over the largest possible surface. So, you get the vintage look of the waxed cotton chassis with some of the best armor components on the market.
In addition to the high level of protection, this Oildale jacket also offers a ton of storage. On the outside of the jacket you have two medium sized hand warmers with oversized YKK zippers with garages. If you unzip the jacket, you can see the removable quilted thermal Satin Core vest liner. The openings on the right side of the liner are actual pockets. The openings on the left side of the liner offer access to the pockets in the shell. You also have a vertical zippered pocket with an electronics grommet and a headphone cable management system. You also get three card sized pockets that allow you to leave your wallet at home. If you remove the liner you can see the shell pockets. These buttons on the left can be used to secure the included bill fold. This can be a great place for cash, insurance, and registration information; just remember that this jacket isn’t completely waterproof.
