Full length side zippers with snaps allow for ease of dressing
HOW TO DETERMINE SIZE. Please measure the thickest part of your thigh (circumference around your thigh at the thickest part) using a cloth tape measure. Be sure to take this measurement with your jeans ON.
Comment: The fit on theses chaps matched my leather chaps and easy to get on and off. The only issue I had was that all of the belt-loop buttons popped off the first time I used them. I was able to retrieve most of the buttons and re-attached them with good thread. Not sure if this is an isolated issue but I wanted to share the only issue I had with these nice chaps.
Detour Reversible Textile Chaps Review
Comment: I really like these. They are really sturdy and light weight. The only issue I have with these is you have to have a belt. I'm a lady rider and i don't always wear a belt. If you have these in your saddle bag and need to put these on...better have a belt with them as well. Other than that I love them.
Comment: They fit me well and they definitely show up at night. You can't tell with the black-side out that they have that reflective fabric on the other side.
Comment: LIGHT WEIGHT DID NOT RESTRICT MOVEMENT
SIZE INSTRUCTIONS RIGHT ON
Comment: 2 in 1 now that is a cool deal! With the temps getting much cooler, especially in the mornings i need a bit more warmth on my legs. I ordered a small & they fit perfect the length was a bit long, fold it over & you got the orange/yellow/ black cuff - depeding which side you choose to wear. The zipper pockets are just enough room for some cash, keys. Plus it comes w/ 2 D rings nice to have. Used it going up to Santa Barbra from L.A. sure felt good & lady's dig them.

Comment: It's a bargain at this price. Keeps you warm and dry and the reversibility is a bonus. Follow the sizing chart and you should have no problems.
WOW Great Value Great Product!
Comment: I did not want your typical heavy and hot leather chaps nor was I really wanting black. I did a search for chaps and was lead to this website and this product. I am not ashamed to say I wear a High Vis Vest so the Hi Vis chaps was a positive. I was also looking for ease of wear. I am a lady @ 5'3 and the small size fits perfectly. They will fit in my saddle bags better then leather also since I needed them to help make my daily commute more comfortable and ease of changing gear. My husband was not sure of what to expect for the price and we both were blown away with the quality.
If you are looking for safety, durability and ease of use I would recommend these. Ease of purchase & fast shipping I would buy from Jafrum again!
These chaps are completely windproof. But they are only water resistant. They will keep you dry through heavy mist or road spray after a rain, they might even keep you dry through light rain, for a while. But they will not keep you dry if you ride in steady rain.
Would you consider these lighter and more flexible than leather chaps? I like how my Jafrum leather chaps keep out the wind and cold, but they are heavy, stiff, and difficult for me to put on. I'm hoping these are easier to handle. Thank you.
Best Answer:These chaps are definitely lighter and much more flexible than leather chaps, but they remain remarkably wind-proof and will help keep the rider warm. But they do NOT go on like most leather chaps. You need to step into them like you would for a pair of pants, because the zipper/snaps stop about 6" below the top of the chaps. None of the catalog pictures really show this feature very clearly, since it would only show up in a rear-view. But, the pictures of the rear-view actually show the model wearing the chaps incorrectly backwards. I really like these chaps, but I find them a little more difficult to put on and take off than my leather chaps.
They are more flexible and easier to put on than leather chaps. As to the weight, it depends on the thickness of your leather chaps. These are two sided with a black inside, so have two layers of material and heavy duty zippers and snaps. So they are obviously heavier than single layer but not excessively so. They are good for cooler weather, but as it is getting warmer here I have gone to my single layer chaps (also abrasive resistance textile vice leather).
My wife and I both bought a set of these chaps. They are a lot lighter than leather and keep the cold and rain off your legs. I would buy them again. They are a bit warm in the desert heat but so are leather chaps. Much easier to put on and take off. I hope this helps in your decision. Tony
Yes, they are lighter and they keep the wind at bay. They are not insulated but provide another layer to minimize the cold. Keep in mind that they are held in place with your belt vs. leather chaps typically have their own waist belt.
I plan on wearing these chaps over my Rev'It Tornado Trousers when I'm in high traffic urban travel conditions. I've measured my thighs with the Rev'It trousers on (26-inches) but, are these chaps going to fit over my Tornado Trousers knee pads (measure 25-inches) in a sport riding position?
Best Answer:Harry, I do not have Tornado's, so I am just giving an opinion here. But, the short answer is; I don't think you have a good fit here.
I love these Detour chaps, but they are not classic design, like my other chaps. You need to step into each one separately, one leg at a time like boots, to put them on. This is because they are permanently closed at the top of the thigh, and only zip/snap from mid thigh to ankle. Then they you'll need to fasten them to your belt to keep them up. I'm not sure that the Tornado's offer a proper place for this hook up.
(I wear them over dress pants when riding to work. While I have a belt on those pants, it's too thin and handsome to do double duty with the chaps. So, I bought a utility belt on-line and keep it with the chaps.)
Tornado's look like great pants, especially when you ride a sport bike with your legs bent strongly at the hip and knee. I'm not so sure these chaps will follw that curve as well.
Obviously, you do what you want. Jafrum is REALLY good about swapping things that didn't fit right, for the same thing in a different size. So, you can try a bigger size to see if it gets you to your comfort zone.
Looks like when HiViz side out the leg closes forward and would duct slipstream inside the chap. How does it work in real life?

Best Answer:There are two sets of snaps. Each set has the cap (or button) on the flap. Then the stud (the part that snaps into the cap) is actually two studs, mounted back to back. And, the tab on the zipper flips completely over so you can pull it up from either side.
But the way Detour get this arrangement to work is that the right leg on the black side becomes the left leg on the hi-viz side! This way the flaps allways face the rear. Since the chaps are not connected to each other by a belt, like traditional chaps are, they turn "inside-out" pretty easy. And, every pocket, d-ring, button, etc. has a duplicate on the other side.
My one warning: You will need to wear a strong belt, that can do double-duty of holding up your pants AND holding up the chaps. OR, do what I did, and buy a 2" wide nylon utility belt and keep it with the chaps.
The images in the catalog are misleading because the model is NOT wearing them correctly. In the images of the high-viz side. he has them on backwards. He has the left chap on the right leg and the right chap on the left leg. Wearing them like that will channel wind and water directly into the pant leg. Hopefully he would figure it out the first time he actually tried to ride withthtem like that. He is wearing them correctly in the image of the black side.
As we are now into the colder riding season here in Northern Virginia and West Virginia I am looking for chaps that will help keep me a bit warmer through the cold of the coming months; any experiences how these meet the cold and wind chills?
These 8552 Chaps Leggings are made from an abrasion resistant nylon and come
in two colors, Hi-Viz Orange and Hi-Viz Yellow. They are available in sizes S
thru 3XL and feature a combination snap and zippered closure. You will notice
that the closure has an inner and outer row of snaps. That is because the
leggings are reversible. Remember to switch legs when reversing your leggings to
make sure the closure flap will be facing in the right direction to keep the
wind out. The Hi-Viz side features reflective panels that match perfectly with
the 8202 Mil-Spec style vest. Check out the listing to see the vest video. The
belt flaps feature two buttons and can be used to make the chaps a little longer
by using just the top button. There are accordion style stretch-panels on the
inside of the leg that also help add to the versatile fit. The only downside to
a textile chap versus a leather chap is that the hem at the bottom has to be
stitched so you can't adjust the length the way you can with leather. The major
bonus, though, is that the textile chaps are much lighter weight and pack
smaller, making them easier to fit into a saddlebag. The other feature I find
handy is this metal D-ring hanging off of the black side of the chap. It's
perfect for holding onto your keys when you are off the bike.
