These are great pants - easy on and off, and warm in chillier weather with liner in. Cant say how water resistant they are as haven't tired them in rain yet. They are also comfortable on the bike. I am 6'3 and 220 pounds and XLT seems to be right size. Would say the size chart is off - perhaps order a size down from what chart suggests.

For the money, these are great pants! I'm 6 foot 200 pounds, and the large fit me perfect. They seem heavy duty and rugged, they would protect you in a slide. With the thigh high leg zippers, they are easy to get on with my boots on, even with the liner in. They are for colder weather, I definitely wouldn't wear these in the summer. Overall, I am impressed with the quality of these pants.
For the price you cannot find anything close to the quality of these pants.
I also have a pair of Detour mesh pants and they are still excellent going into the 3rd year. Plus the size range is great for those of us who are too short for our weight.
I first had the 8501 and was very happy with them, but unfortunately the seam in the crotch ripped. I decided to go with the Ballistic due to the stretch fabric in the knees, crotch and butt area. These pants are a phenomenal value, as are the other Detour pants. THe 8505 have a bit more waterproof features and a few less pockets. I just needed something that would serve me well during the winter months! No regrets and Jafrum is the best company to deal with on the web! Believe it!!!
I won't go into the details that the other reviews covered. All I want to say is that I compared the workmanship on these pants to my leathers and in my opinion it is at least as good with a few features that I found better than the other brand.
pants well padded , and kept me warm at 40 degrees. Just with they were 1"or 2" longer on the pant leg. 5'11" and 205 lbs
These are great pants. comfortable, using them without the inside liner. Material feels durable. armor is in good position. I am 6ft, ordered medium. they look baggy on the waist, length is fine when standing but they do tend to ride up to the ankle on the Vulcan. Overall, nice pair of pants for a good price. I recommend.
A little wide for smaller people but full featured, well made and excellent customer service.
I want to buy it. Please publish this item on Amazon
I have another pair of pant, but I ordered these for this season. They are bulky, but I took the liner our and they seemed to fit better. They aren't to hot, but they have plenty of armor. I'm happy with them, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants a nice pair of pants, for a reasonable price.
The pants fit good and feel good riding. The only hint of a problem was when I received the pants the front zipper was pulled apart. I unzipped it and zipped it and it seems to be working. I have only worn the pants 3 time so far. I purchased these for an in between set of riding wear as I wear my gerbings when it is cold and these when it is warmer.
nice pant for the price, a little baggy tho. worth the money
Recently bought the Detour 8505 Ballistic pants to use in winter. I have a pair of Detour 8504 mesh pants for summer, and found the quality for the price a very good deal. They are not the best but give the most bang for the buck. Especially like the full length zippers to make it easy to put on or take off with boots on as I use my pants as overpants. I carry rain gear for the long rides so I cannot attest to the waterproof qualities, I purchased a size larger and they are bulky, but they do what I need them to do and have an extra quilted liner which I have not needed yet. Leather is great but I like the CV armor as added insurance because old bones take longer to mend ! As far a Jafrum's customer service I have not needed to use it, I am a repeat customer and have made quite a few purchases in last few years to include helmets, gloves, jackets, pants and luggage.
Received the pants today. They were on back order. A large size is perfect to wear over pants or shorts. For $60 you can't beat it. With the liner you could use these for skiing or snowmobile. Good job Jafrum!
As others have said, these are a bit more bulky than they appear. I am 5'11'', smaller athletic build, and the mediums fit nearly spot on. The legs do ride up to above the ankles though, but I do ride a sportbike. A tad tight as I wear them over my pants, but with the liner removed and the waist straps undone when pulling them on, this isn't a problem. I'd be worried about protection if they fit too loose. Armor is everywhere, on the hips, lower back, side and front'ish of the thighs, knees, and some padding on the shins. I do wish they had thigh vents like the other models, as these are very warm in the summer to wear. Can't say if the waterproof claim is true, as I haven't gotten caught in the rain yet. Overall, a nice deal for the price.
I'm 5'8" and medium build...the XL fit perfectly. Easy to get in and out of them. I needs full rain protection and my chaps would leave me a little soggy in the middle, if you know what I mean.
i am 5'-7", and got the large size. Medium would have been too tight. It is well made but extremely bulky..
These Detour 8505 Riding pants are made of a durable water resistant polynylon with stretch material in the groin and the backs of the knees, and heavy duty ballistic nylon in the knees, hips, and seat. They have a huge size range, including regular sizes XS thru 4X, and short and tall sizes m thru 3X. There is a fitment chart on the listing to help you to determine your size.
The fly closure features an all metal zipper with a waterproof gusset and a hook and loop cover flap with dual snaps at the top.
Safety comes in the form of removable CE rated armor in the knees, built in padding in the hips and lower back, removable foam padding in the hips, and reflective panels and piping that start above the outside of the knees and extend down to the bottom of the cuffs of the legs.
Storage is ample with two hand warmer pockets with waterproof zippers and hook and loop cover flaps.
Adjustability equals comfort, and these 8505's are definitely adjustable. They feature dual hook and loop straps at the waist with stretchy panels, accordion style stretch panels at the knees and rear end, and more hook and loop adjusters at the cuffs.
The leg closures feature ¾ length waterproof zippers that are tucked away beneath these hook and loop cover flaps. Open the legs up, and you can see the removable quilted liner with flex panels in the knees, and the fixed waterproof liner that guarantees you stay dry for the whole ride.
