I recieved these chaps as a christmas gift, and I love them! It's hard to judge the leather quality from the pictures and video, but you must put your mind at ease because the leather is amazing for this price. For the thickness, this leather is butter soft and smells like it came from a high end leather store. I'm 5'11" tall, 254 lb, 29 inch thighs, and my arms are 17 inches to show I'm no beast of a man. My waist is 40 inches true, but I take a 42 for loose fit or 38 tight. I went with a 3XL and hemmed only one snap off. Size is perfect. A 4XL would be good if you want another inch of leg room, but I like a snug chap leg out of personal preference.

got these to match my retro brown jacket. perfect match!!! great fit, warm, well built product. thanx again jafrum, you guys are the best!!!
Got the retro brown leather chaps in large and was very happy they fit perfectly after cutting to length. They are heavy, warm, very well made and comfortable. Everything I have purchased from Jafrum has exceeded my expectations. I don't know how Jafrum can sell so low - with the quality of these items one could expect to pay around 3 times as much elsewhere. Thanks Jafrum!!!!! Unbelievably fast and efficient service/delivery as well.
Ordered these for my husband and he loves the quality of them.....true to fit...very nice leather
Bought the chaps for my wife. Good quality, good fit.
The Retro Brown Leather Chaps are the second pair of Jafrum chaps I have purchased. Just like the black braided chaps, these are top quality comfort fit chaps. I really like the deep side cut pockets ant the extra snat at the top legs. Real comfort, fit and protection. I recommend getting a size larger that you usually do. I take a Largemost of the time, but the extra larger fits much better in leather chaps.
I've purchased several items from Jafrum's over the years and have never been disappointed with the quality. I recently purchased a set of these chaps and although they were darker in color than I wanted, I'm still satisfied. Nothing wrong with them, my coat is just a lot lighter in color. Fit was perfect.
Chaps are same quality as other Detour products and match my Detour Rushmore Jacket. Ordered an the 8th and received on the 10th. Very fast. Medium size fit perfectly right out of the box. (I'm 6"0 175lbs wear 34wx32l jean size.) Didn't have to cut leg length. Not too tight not too loose. They should offer the warmth and protection I expect. Will order from Jafrum again.
Look good, feel good, fit good, quick ship. Matches well with retro brown jacket, 8008. Thanks, will be back.
So now that your core is protected by your Detour leather jacket, it's time to move the focus to your legs. Chaps are a great way to shield your legs from wind, light rain, and road debris. For those of you that are new to chaps, there are a few key points that will make buying and owning chaps less of a headache. First, chaps are leather. They don't stretch. If you are very athletic or just have large thighs or calves, you will need to pick a model with stretchy expander panels in the legs. The solid leather versions like these 8551's may not fit. Rick here has a 32" waist and a fairly slender lower body and fits perfectly into the medium size. Also, the leg hole on most chaps is unfinished so that they can be trimmed to length. This enables manufacturers to offer fewer sizes and therefore offer a lower price. Lots of folks cut these too short and end up with cold ankles or water in their boots. Have someone else mark one pant leg for cutting while you are sitting on your bike so that account for bent knees when measuring. If you mark the leg while you are standing, your chaps may end up too short when you are sitting on your bike. Make sure your mark isn't directly above a snap. If you cut right above a snap, the cuff will be able to spread and you will step on the back of the pant leg when you put your feet down or while you walk. Also, do not mark both legs independently of each other. Your chaps will end up lop sided. Mark one leg and remove the chaps. Trim the first leg. Match the top of the trimmed leg against the untrimmed then mark the second and trim it. Now you know they will match.
Let's take a look at our 8551 chaps. The 8551's have antiqued brass looking hardware. The waist belt has a buckle type closure. There are hand warmer pockets here on the top of the belt but be careful. They don't snap closed. Like most chaps, the legs of the 8551's open all the way down the leg. They zip down just below the knee then snap down to the foot. There is single snap near the hip to hold down the zipper cover.
The interior has a mesh lining that promotes airflow and keeps the leather from sticking to your pants when damp and restricting your mobility.
On the back of the 8551, you can see the fine adjustment of the waist belt and Rick's butt.
