GMax GM54S Modular Helmet Review

I belong to two ATV clubs here in the central/northern Calif in the Sierra Mountains. Two other members had this helmet and I also like the idea of the face shield / chin guard rising up out of the way. The helmet is very comfortable and easy to put on even with wearing glasses. It is a lot quieter than the 3/4 helmet that I used to use. My wife also feels that I am a lot safer with this new helmet. This service was great and I got help with the size being the size chart may not be correct. The shipping was very fast and I recieved the helmet on the day that they said. Hats off to you all.

Helmet shipped quickly. Tracking was good. Undamaged on arrival. Sizing chart was right on. Love the helmet. Fits snug, but next size would be to big. Wind noise is no more than my old helmet. Love the features. Also bought brake light kit. Love the lighting feature. Everything works great.

Very Nice Helmet.

I purchased this helmet as a back up and I wanted to try a modular helmet. I am very pleased with the turn around time for my order, the quality of the product and the value for my money. I would indeed purchase another GM54s.

Firstly Im a newbie rider and I thought that a modular helmet would be ideal since I wear glasses. The video helped immensely in my decision, and I was very satisfied with my choice.I opted for this model because i always choose the middle of the range variety, and of course ,you always get what you pay for. The material and construction feels well made, the ventilation works well, the paddings are very firm yet supportive, and the flip up mechanisms and slide controls feel sure and sturdy, not wobbly or cheap. It is quiet on the freeway. The price is very reasonable. The added feature of a flashing light is a safety bonus.I think I'll get one for the wife, but in pink

Comfortable design

It is very comfortable and does not pass the noise although at the time of delivery I got a broken piece which raises and lowers the glasses but had to pass this transportation.

Great Modular

Love the inner sun shield and the 11 (yeah, 11) vents. The included chin shield blocks wind and noise. Scott must have sausage fingers, because I have no problem raising and lowering the inner sun shield with the outer clear visor in the full raised position.

Terrific Helmet.....With Good Features

by - verified purchaser
Visited the Jafrum office in Charlotte, N.C. while visiting friends in nearby Denver, N.C. My wife and I tried on four or five different modular helmets that I had researched and that were sold by Jafrum and without a doubt, this helmet was the best fit, the best comfort, and looks good, too. We wanted modular helmets as we wanted to be able to lift the chin piece when we stopped for gas or whatever. I like that the clear visor lifts without having to lift the entire chin piece. A great feature. I also liked the drop down sun shade. This helmet has all you need in a DOT approved helmet. Plenty of vents for cooling. We currently ride with GMax 3/4 helmets, but our Blue Tooth comm system doesn't work very well even though it has noise cancelling microphones so we opted to go for the modular helmets in an effort to have better communication between rider and passenger.

Oh Hell Yeah!

My wife recently tried on a Bell Revolver Evo in a cycle shop and decided that it was going to be her new helmet. After some research I chose to order a GM54s for myself, because it seemed to cheaper, quieter, and had more features than the Bell. When my new helmet arrived, it turned out to be too small for me. No problem, I'll just use Jafrum's easy RMA to return it. In the meantime, my wife tried on the Gmax and discovered that she liked it much better than the Bell Revolver in virtually all aspects. Not to mention that it's $75 cheaper than the Bell. So she appropriated my helmet and I now will another larger GM54s. Additionally, our new Sena SMH10d bluetooth intercom fits the GM54s very well. The speaker pockets are perfect for the SMH10d intercom. Is the GM54s as good a helmet as Arai or Shoei? Hell, no. But the GM54s, in my opinion is the best modular helmet currently available.

GMax GM54S Modular Helmet Review

This is the third gmax snowmobile helmet that I have owned. The gmax helmets I think are the best fitting helmets for snowmobiling. There is one very big issue that I had with this purchase, when I received this helmet there was no nose cup with this helmet. I do not know of any other snowmobile helmet that does not come without a nose cup. Also the lens that was on this helmet was a single layer shield and would FOG up very bad. I had two go out a buy another shield for this helmet.(double) When I was shopping for that other shield I did look at other gmax helmets and they all came with double layer shields. With me not being happy at all with this sale I will never buy one more helmet or anything else for you again.

Solid , quiet, fits nice, but don't like that you can't put sun shade down when shield is raised.(can't get to the button) Also the shield release on the chin doesn't release as nice as I would like.

This helmet, meets and exceeds expectations. The dual visor works flawlessly. The wide array of vents allow for customization in any weather. I own two GMAX HELMETS and I doubt I'll ever buy a different brand.

Great helmet Gmax GM54

I ordered the helmet through Amazon and it helmet arrived on time and looked the part in all respects. My spirits were dampened when it didn't fit right wearing and taking it out was laborious. I faced this inspite of the fact that I had stuck to the sizing chart available on the manufacturer's web site.

Great helmet

This is the second helmet of this brand and model I have owned. The first one was actually used in the manner that no cycleist wants. I went down and the helmit did what it is designed to do. I walked away with nothing more than a sore ankle, torn cloths and stiff neck. I hit my head hard but the helmit did its job. I would highly recommed this helmet to anyone.

Good deal for the $$ !! GMax GM54S Helmet

by - verified purchaser
For a relatively inexpensive helmet this is good quality. The modular mechanism is smooth and solid. The face sheild, which on my last 3 helmets was cheap and the travel was sloppy, is nice and snug at the bottom, but lifts easily when wanted. The several vents also allow you to let in just the air you want in the areas you want it. The inner sun lens is perfect for early morning or evening rides. You don't have to decide whether to wear your sunglasses or not. I have plenty of LEDs on my bike so visibility isn't an issue, but the built in light in the back is great for those that don't. That's a lot of features and a good quality helmet for the money. The only reason I rated it 4 is because I wear prescription glasses and the padding around the ears doesn't allow them to sit right.

I really liked the first Gmax helmet I bought. It had the light in the back, too, but it was the solid face model. After a low side at 45mph scratched it up, I decided to try the modular model. Same great fit and more features than my previous helmet. This one seems to be a little noisier, and not as good in the airflow though. The face shield isn't as secure in the ratchet mechanism either, but that might be an adjustment issue? Good enough room to wear glasses under the sun lens.

Do you think I can clamp a Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth headset to the side of the helmet and will also allow the helmet to open? I'd rather not use the two-side tape option. Thanks.

Are the GM54S helmets all the same or is there a snowmobile helmet and a motorcycle helmet? and do you have a small gm54s with heated shield?
Manta Rider on Jan 7, 2015
Best Answer:The helmets are the same. The Shields are different. The dual and electric snow lens for helmets are generally not Street Approved.

Does this helmet have some lower chin apparatus to keep wind from coming up from under the chin?
Clayton S on Dec 18, 2014
Best Answer:It has a mesh netting that helps a little, but honestly i don't recommend this helmet because it is very loud. If you don't know what i mean by loud, it makes a lot of noise from the wind when doing anything over 50mph
Reply · Report · William H on Dec 19, 2014
Does this have the electric shield?
A shopper on Oct 5, 2014
Best Answer:I had to do a little research to figure out what you are asking about. No, the helmet does not have an electric anti-fog shield. That being said, I have two of these and neither has a fogging issue. My wife reported one incident where the shield fogged up. We were in Florida in extreme humidity and her helmet fogged up as it began to rain. It was very hot and literally 100% humidity. So, good value for the money, no problems, and fairly comfortable. The air venting works and I would buy these helmets again. Good luck.

Is there a way to attach the J&M CB Headset other than clipping to the bottom edge? A lot of newer helmets have pockets on the outside of the helmets to attach to. I could not identify anything by the picture?

Thanks
Chief on Sep 14, 2015
Best Answer:There isn't a built in place to add an intercom or headset into this helmet. Though there is enough space where I'm sure you can make it work. I've used earbuds inside my helmet to listen to a MP3 before.

Other than that, it is a Superb Helmet. I would recommend it to Anyone. I use it daily and Really Enjoy it. It's not heavy,Easy to remove the interior pads & liner for cleaning. The light on the back is Great for foggy mornings or for traffic. Plus the Price is Nice. I hope this helps

what speakers fit this helmet?
Keith A on Apr 6, 2015
Best Answer:The foam ear pieces come out of the helmet and small, maybe 1 1/2" round speakers go underneath. I use the headset speakers from my communicator and they work very well. Just rode cross country and listened to music all the way. The helmet isn't the quietest unit around but it is workable. Most important is to get a communicator with the fidelity you want.

how much it weigh?
mary t on Jan 5, 2015
Best Answer:I don't know the actual weight, but it seems fairly light compared to the fiberglass Shoie Helmet I used to have. This is an Excellent helmet. I am Very Happy with it. With all the vents it stays cool while riding in the summer. If it's too hot you can ride with the windscreen up or the whole chin piece. With the vents closed,ot seals well enough to ride in the winter without a draft. Very sturdy.I would recommend it to anyone.
