The SG10's sit in the number two spot amongst the four pairs available here in the US behind the SG12's and ahead of the G-React and the GX-1's. The SG10's are a top level motocross race boot designed for advanced to pro level riding. They're available in a black or a white color scheme and are available in US men's sizes six to fourteen. The sizing is accurate to a Brannock device lengthwise. My foot measures eight and a half, and a nine in these SG10's is perfect.
I have to say, these are some of the most comfortable motocross boots I've ever worn. They have a dual pivot ankle system called razorback that I thought for sure would rub on my wide ankle bones. It doesn't. Not at all. The fit around the ankles is snug for sure, but the padding is well designed, and the boots are completely comfortable. I also have wide feet, and usually require an E width. I was worried that because Gaerne is an Italian boot maker that the boots would be way too narrow. I definitely don't have a ton of extra room, but these boots will accommodate feet that run to the narrow side of E, no problem.
This SG10 boot has another very accommodating feature as well, one that is very popular among top level riders, and that is that the Razorback as Gaerne calls it, is floating. The calf protector, shin plate, and top buckle aren't connected directly to the boot. This not only promotes improved range of motion, but also ensures that these protective features are always in the proper location in relation to your leg and foot, no matter what size or shape your leg is.
The Gaerne SG10's have all of the features you hope to find in a top level race boot. You get a dual compound sole for good grip and a long life. The foot bed itself is also specially designed to absorb shock, which reduces tingling and fatigue. The toe box is covered in TPU and reinforced internally for extra protection, as is the heel cup. The heel also features a shift lip or heel bumper for quick shifts off the start. Nowadays, these are almost as necessary as fork tube holeshot devices if want to have any chance of being the first rider around turn one.
Ankle protection is provided by the lower portion of the Razorback system, and the medial side of the boot features a rubberized panel for heat protection and extra control of the bike.
Many of the high wear features of the boot are removable and replaceable, the two most common being the insole, and the straps or buckles.
Opening the boot up, reveals the mud repelling inner gaitor, and the memory cell inner foam liner, and I'll tell you what, I've worn a riding boot or two, and the liner in these Gaerne boots really is amazing. The padding really is in all the right places.
