These new Atomic X gloves are constructed using a variety of chassis materials including drum dyed leather and a stretchy Spandex and Polyester blend. These offer a fairly high level of protection for a textile and leather hybrid glove, and fall between the Rocket Nation 2.0 and the Speedway glove in the new lineup. Joe Rocket actually classifies these as “racing” gloves, although I’m not sure these are quite enough for the track in my opinion. I think a glove should be all leather to be considered for the track. These are definitely one of my favorite warm weather options for the street, though.

These new Atomic X’s are available in five color ways including this blue. There is also all-black, red, yellow, and orange colorways available. They’re available in sizes small to double x in the colored versions, and to triple x in the all black. I really like the fit of these gloves. They have a gentle precurved shape to them, but it’s not extreme, so you have excellent mobility, with just the right amount of material across the palm.

The wrist area has a half cuff, for a little added protection at the wrist, but the wrist closure strap is offset somewhat, which I thought was a mistake at first, because the material seems a little gathered when the glove is cinched tight, until I realized how good the range of motion was as a result. Again, not the best feature for the track, you want a glove to offer quite a bit of support for your wrist when crashing at high speeds. But for street riding, where your hands are often doing more than just operating your motorcycle’s controls; ie they’re adjusting other gear, or reaching into pants pockets and so on, mobility is invaluable.

Also adding to the incredible freedom of movement, is the finger construction. You can see that there is an extensive amount of material on the insides of the fingers. You can’t tell it is there with the glove on, but it provides unrestricted movement of the fingers. The leather panels on the tops of the fingers are attached independently of each other, so they act as hinges. The thumb also gets a little extra help in the mobility department from the flex panel at the knuckle.

I also like the relationship between these gloves and my motorcycle’s controls. There are padded reinforcements on the palms for extra protection, but they aren’t so thick that they make your grips feel fatter, the way they can with some models, and the material they use is highly tacky in relationship to your grips, so it takes minimal effort to hold the throttle open. The material used in the balance of the palm and on the fingers is also very tacky in relationship to your controls. It makes operating your motorcycle seemingly effortless.

If you turn the glove over, you can see some more of the protective features. You have high density padding protecting the knuckles in the hand and on the fingers.
