These Urge Overkill boots are part of a collection of apparel items including two different styles of helmets, and what I like to call an urban touring jacket. They’re a great solution for the street rider looking for the rigidity and protection of a boot, combined with the athletic look and shape of a basketball shoe, all wrapped up in a waterproof package. I typically classify footwear based on the presence or lack of a shank in the sole. But, there are quite a few motorcycle footwear options this year that are breaking that mold. This is one of them.

These boots are shankless. I still call them boots because of the rigidity of the sole. The sole is very stiff from the heel cap up to just passed the arch, but then gets more pliable near the toe. This offers the sure feel and the protection you want out of a boot, but offers the walking comfort of a shoe. They have left the shank of this design because the sole material is too soft, and a shank would actually damage this soft sole from the inside out.

While we are looking at the sole, let’s take a look at the tread. This tread design offers an incredible amount of grip, even on wet surfaces, and the outsole wraps around the outside of the balls of the foot and the heel to provide extra shock absorption. There is also a small TPU puck near the pinky toe that will act as a tiny slider in a crash.

These Urge Overkill Boots are available in sizes eight to thirteen and have a fairly generous fit. The length is accurate to a Brannock device and the width is good up to an E. The embossed buckle type closures offer an excellent amount of adjustability and make the boots comfortable on a huge range of instep measurements.

The uppers are made of a mix of leather and mesh, with a rubber material covering the toe. The toebox is reinforced internally as is the heelcup for added protection. The ankle is also protected by internal reinforcement, and an additional pad on the medial side of the boot. Sandwiched in between the upper material and the lining is a waterproof breathable membrane to keep your stinkers dry. Aiding in the boot’s waterproof duties is a gaiter that you can see if you unfasten the boot.

All in all, these new Urge Overkill boots from Speed and Strength are great example of the new hybrid boot meets shoe style for motorcycling that protects your feet, and also looks great on and off the bike.

There seems to be an issue with the strap and buckle system on these boots coming off "Speed and Strength Urge Overkill Waterproof Boots" do you know if the manufacturer has addressed this problem? I like this style of boot and most say it runs a little wide in the width which seems to be hard to find in this type of boot.

Best Answer:We have not had a big issue with these boots. I am not aware of a quick fix. Warranty would be an option if the boots are still within the time frame.
