Fieldsheer Adventure Tour Jacket Sizing

Jacket Sizing Information. There are three variables to consider when sizing a jacket. The first two are the chest and sleeve measurements, which are what your jacket size is based on. The third is the jacket fit type, which defines the "cut" of the jacket (Attack, Sport, or Relaxed). Instructions, sizing charts and jacket fit details can be found below.

Chest Measurement. While standing with your arms relaxed at your side, wrap a flexible tape measure around your chest at its largest point. The tape measure should go through your armpit and stay parallel with the floor while taking the measurement

Sleeve Measurement Instructions. While standing with your arms relaxed at your side, place one end of a flexible tape measure on your spine at the base of your neck. Measure over the top of your shoulder, down over the point of your elbow, and finish at the wrist bone.

The FieldSheer Adventure Tour Jacket is a highly versatile, all season option for a wide range of riders from the around town commuter to the long distance tourer. This jacket is going to perform in nearly all temperatures and weather conditions. It’s available in 4 color ways including this all black version, a black and silver, gunmetal, and hi-viz yellow. They also cover a huge size range, with regular sizes small thru 4XL and tall sizes medium thru 4X. The fitment chart on our product listing offers numbered sizing, chest, and sleeve measurements, to help you establish fitment. Our model is 5’10’’ and 160 lbs and fits perfectly in a medium. There is also a ladies cut with the same features and color ways, in regular sizes extra small thru extra large and plus sizes small thru XL.

Let’s take a look at some of the features. First thing you notice with this Adventure Tour is the shell fabric. FieldSheer is using a 500 denier nylon called Maxtena Pro that really changes the way you think about riding jacket material. This material is soft to the touch, and very flexible, like a casual jacket. It doesn’t feel stiff and crisp like most high denier nylon does. Most inclement weather touring gear saps the energy out of you because you’re fighting the gear every time you try to move. Not with this jacket. Mobility is very good. This is a jacket you can wear comfortably all day long. In addition to the fabric, adjustability also plays a huge role in a jackets comfort and functionality. There are Velcro adjusters on the sides above the waist, to reduce buffeting and manage airflow, and multi position snap adjusters on the sleeves, to provide the perfect amount of tension to keep your armor in place without restricting your movement. The cuffs are also adjustable with these Velcro straps. FieldSheer has given these cuffs a lot of range of adjustability, which is important, because it allows you to wear your gloves with the gauntlets inside or outside of the sleeves of the jacket depending on the weather conditions.

Probably the second most important aspect next to mobility for a touring jacket for me is ventilation. Long distance touring will take you through a full spectrum of weather and temperature conditions, so it’s important for your gear to manage air efficiently. When it’s warm, the jacket needs to vent enough to keep you from sweating profusely, because when it cools down again, that film of perspiration on your body will make the jackets task of keeping you warm far more difficult, if not impossible. There a vents all over this jacket. The Ram Air direct ventilation system features waterproof zippered openings that are protected by these Velcro flaps. The flaps can be fastened back on themselves to hold the vent hole open for maximum air flow. Vents can be found on the shoulders and sleeves, and the pockets on the chest double as vents as well. On the back, vents can be found at the bottom of the jacket and across the shoulder blades. These bottom vents are also a great place to store the removable neck gator, which attaches to the collar to keep your neck warm, and helps to keep water from running down your helmet into the jacket.

A riding jacket is just a jacket without protection, and the Adventure Tour has plenty. In addition to the high tensile strength and abrasion resistant shell fabric, you will find CE rated Armadillo armor in the shoulders, elbows, and back. There is also memory foam that is stitched into the shell in these areas to help the armor absorb impact. Inside the rear of the jacket, you will find two systems for attaching pants to the jacket, a zippered connection for riding pants attachment, and a loop for attaching the jacket to a belt. Not only do these features help manage airflow and help keep water out, they also protect the small of your back and the top of your rear end from the asphalt in a crash. Nighttime visibility can also be a safety issue, so FieldSheer has added Phoslite reflective panels all over the jacket on the edges of the chest, on the sleeves, and large areas of the back. There is also reflective piping on the shoulders and elbows, and the FieldSheer logo on the upper back is highly reflective as well.

Storage is also plentiful on the Adventure Tour. There are again these combination vent pockets on the chest, hand warmer pockets, and flap style cargo pockets on the shell.

Opening the jacket up reveals the main closure system which consists of a two way nylon zipper with metal pull tabs that is protected from the elements by double layer flap system. Two way zippers are a must on a three quarter length jacket because they allow you to adjust the fit while you are sitting on your bike. Keeping the front of the jacket smooth against your body instead of allowing it to roll and bunch maximizes the waterproof characteristics of the jacket by eliminating places for water to pool. Unzipping the main closure exposes the two stage liner and hidden chest pocket. This first layer is the waterproof liner that features Nanomax and Rain Guard technologies that create a waterproof barrier that is also breathable. This membrane allows unwanted extra heat and moisture to escape. One of the best features of the liner systems is its ease of removal. The removal of most liners requires you to dig into the sleeve to hunt blindly for a small loop or snap. The cuffs of the sleeves on this jacket feature external zippers so liner removal is a zip. Unzipping the waterproof liner exposes the removable, full sleeve, quilted thermal liner. This liner is also waterproof and the Exkin Air technology does a fantastic job of keeping you warm. A closer look at this liner reveals some extra pockets for storage on both sides and these stretchy panels in the underarms that add to the jackets already excellent flexibility.
