Firstgear Adventure Mesh Jacket Review

by - verified purchaser
Today was the first day I wore it. Temperature was 90 degrees with 35% humidity. Air moves through this thing. Wore it for a 40 mile trip on the interstate. The jacket weighs 5 lbs. but isn't that noticeable. I ordered the silver/black in size XL as I fall between sizes. It was much roomier than expected, I probably could have ordered a size L and had it fit just fine, but the adjustment straps and adjustable pads gave me a decent fit and left room for wearing something more underneath if I so desire for the between seasons. I would order one of these again or recommend it to a friend. This thing works just like it is supposed to.

Nice Coat

by - verified purchaser
I have taken this coat out for a few rides so far. On a hot day (80 + degrees) it performed quite well. The airflow was nice to have at highway speeds. The fit and adjustability is a plus. The rain liner zips out in a hurry - no muss/fuss. The protection placement is adjustable. You heat up pretty quickly when you are at a red light or in stop and go traffic.
The only downside is that this thing is HEAVY! The protection is clearly the culprit - and I believe it's worth the extra weight. Still...zowee!
Overall - 4 stars and a thumbs up to JAFRUM and the coat. Fast shipping, good communication and quality gear.

This new Adventure Mesh riding jacket from First Gear is perfect for the rider looking for a ¾ length touring style jacket for the hot weather. Its 250 denier polyester shell is available in two colors, this silver with black and a Dayglo yellow and black version. The high impact areas of the shoulders and elbows are made of a highly abrasion resistant 600 denier poly. The Adventure mesh is available in a huge size range, with regular sizes small to four XL, and tall sizes medium thru two X. The fit is accurate to the size chart on our listing, and the extensive adjustability makes the fit very versatile. This is a hot weather jacket, and sized accordingly. So, if you plan on wearing this jacket into the cooler weather, take your measurements while wearing anything you will be wearing while you ride. Again, the fit is very accurate, so the jacket may fit too snug if you don’t take thick layers into account when establishing your size. While we’re talking about fitment, let’s take a look at the adjustability. Adjustability is hugely important for a touring style jacket to work well. The jacket needs to fit properly with or without its liners installed. First Gear has put adjustability on all the right places of this Adventure Mesh. Waist fitment is handled above the waist instead of below it, with these dual hook and loop pulley straps. These do a great job of regulating airflow with the liner installed and reducing buffeting overall. The sleeves have not one but two adjusters per sleeve with two points of attachment per adjuster to promote even tension down the sleeve. The cuffs are also feature packed, with large expandable gussets with Autolock YKK zips and hook and loop adjusters. Unless you’re trying to use this jacket as a moving truck, you should have plenty of storage. There are eleven pockets on the outside of the shell alone! There are four horizontally mounted chest pockets with zippers, and two vertically mounted zipper pockets. If you open up one of the vertically mounted pockets, you can see an additional mesh pocket mounted on the inside. If you turn the jacket to the rear, you can see the eleventh shell pocket. This fanny pack style pocket is a perfect hiding spot for the liner when removed. If you open up the dual zippered YKK main closure, you can see the removable, water resistant, quilted thermal liner. This liner features a giant map pocket on the right, and a cell phone pocket on the left. The liner is removed by unfastening a zipper on both sides of the jacket and unfastening snaps at the cuffs of the sleeves. I like this dual zipper setup over the full single zipper because it allows full access to the shell pockets, on either side, with the liner installed. Protection! It comes from CE rated armor in the shoulders and elbows. There is also an EVA foam spine protector in the back. Attaching your jacket to your pants can help to keep the skin on your back protected in a slide. FirstGear has added a zippered tendon to the lower back of the Adventure mesh to make this possible. The liner has a hemmed slit added to it to allow the tendon to pass through. This keeps the liner from getting bunched up inside the jacket when the tendon is in use. Protection also comes in the form of hi-viz panels on the chest, shoulders and back, with additional reflective FirstGear logos on the right cargo pocket and rear of the jacket just below the collar.
